Turkey has been growing apace with the demand for Indian weddings. Following 2018’s International MICE and Wedding Forum (IMWF) event, the demand for destination wedding in Turkey rose eight times.
The IMWF Managing Partner Necip Fuat Ersoy said India is the main market of wedding tourism in the world. Ersoy said Turkey holds a small but growing share of it. “The Indian weddings are a segment in Turkey with high added value. Turkey has already hosted five big Indian wedding events since the beginning of 2019.” Ersoy said they want to complete this year with 20 Indian weddings. “Turkey has been intensely working to grasp the Indian market for the last five years.” Marking the international forum as an important platform to introduce Turkish market to the world, Ersoy said Turkey registered a significant rise in sectoral demand for the 2018 forum. “I am in touch with the wedding organizers from India.
They predict a 300 per cent rise. One of the airline companies in India has started its flights to Turkey,” he confided. “Several other airlines in India have also started to search ways to fly to Turkey. There is a big interest.” Ersoy further said that they expect fifteen to eighteen per cent rise in early reservations this year. He added that they have also noticed an increasing demand from Western countries and high-spending tourists.
According to a report by New World Wealth, India, in 2015, is home to about 2,36,000 high net worth individuals. This number is set to grow by 135 per cent to reach about 5,54,000 by 2025. And, it is no wonder that international tourist destinations have been promoting themselves for destination weddings bearing in mind that the market is one that can afford the extravaganza. Earlier, only the elite were known for organizing such lavish affairs, but today a new consciousness has been seen in the upper middle-class as well and they too desire to have grand celebrations.
