India and the problems with Electric Vehicles (EV) are known to the entire world. It is right now a novice market with huge potential when it comes to Electric Vehicles. The country is facing infrastructure disabilities and is trying to make up for the same. There are a lot of companies looking to invest. However, none of them are experts in making EVs. All of them are new and are looking to target India and experiment. The government is also skeptical but is investing a lot of money in FAME-II and many other organizational entities to entitle them.
The progress in India is not to be seen as there are very few Electric Vehicles in India. The country is starting the change from the capital of India. There are going to be 1000 electric buses on the streets of Delhi starting from the end of 2019. The government has approved this project. However, cars need to be sold and that is not happening. The reason for the same is that the range on the cars along with its batteries is not that good and people are resenting it.
The only company to crack the EV code along with its charging time and facility is Tesla. Tesla is one of the biggest EV companies in the world and the fact that it has grown massively in the past decade tells us a lot more about it. Tesla, however, has no plans whatsoever of coming to India. Elon Musk, himself cleared this a couple of years ago.
However, when asked about coming to India on Twitter yesterday, Musk said that he is planning for the same. He also said that he was planning to come to India last year but will now come in 2020. His tweet read “Would love to be there this year. If not, definitely next! India” Tesla might have a huge market in India but it has to make a lot of modification to its cars. The autonomous driving system won’t work in India and it has to keep in mind the condition of the roads.
Musk was not interested in India before because of its lack of infrastructure. But that seems to be changing as there are a lot of factors that have changed since Musk looked at India. The tweet might be very encouraging for the people in India as Tesla is one of the leading companies in the world.
In 2015, the Prime Minister of India had also tweeted about the same and praised Tesla for its work in technology. It will be interesting to see if Tesla really ignites its plans in India or is it just to play with the minds here.
