The symbolic importance of Saudi Arabia to the Muslim world is derived not from Riyadh, but from Mecca and Medina. Every Muslim look up to these two holy sites and Saudi Arabia being the up keeper of these two sites derives reverence from the Muslims around the world. It is similar to the reverence Vatican enjoys from the Christians. However, unlike Vatican, Saudi Arabia is also a political power and is often seen to be flexing its muscle and making shrewdly judged geo-political moves that baffle many.
KSA has crossed swords with a fellow Islamic country of Iran to an unprecedented level instead of the common Muslim foe of Israel! It is killing the fellow Arabs and Sunni Muslims in Yemen. It has imposed trade embargo on another GCC nation of Qatar. It supported ISIS to destroy Iraq and Syria because they are Shia majority countries. It has taken hostage of the Lebanon’s President in Riyadh and compelled him to resign. Former King Abdullah once told ex-General Gaddafi of Libya that the latter would be sent to grave and that is what exactly happened, although we do not know whether Saudis were complicit to it. Pakistanis were denied rights to shop in the duty free shops of Saudi Arabia and UAE as Pakistan refused to partake in their war against Yemen.

The list of Saudi vices is long and all these excesses have started to turn stomach. The Muslims are increasingly getting disillusioned with the Saudi leadership. The recent leaked documents states that Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed (MbZ) is working on breaking up Saudi Arabia, according Lebanese newspaper Al Akhbar. Al Akhbar said that the leaked documents contained secret diplomatic briefings sent by UAE and Jordanian ambassadors in Beirut to their respective governments.
“The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed is working on breaking up the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” the Jordanian envoy quoted the Kuwait ambassador as saying.
A second document, issued on September 28, 2017, reveals meeting minutes between the Jordanian ambassador and his UAE counterpart Hamad bin Saeed al-Shamsi.
The document said the Jordanian ambassador informed his government that UAE believes that “Saudi policies are failing both domestically and abroad, especially in Lebanon”.
“The UAE is dissatisfied with Saudi policies,” the Jordanian envoy said.
If this happens, the Middle East would be in anarchy! It should also be mentioned that throughout the history of Arabian Peninsula, there were small clans across the regions that fought against each other incessantly. Therefore, breaking up Saudi Arabia cannot be ruled out at least in the long run. To evidence this possibility further, even the common Saudi citizens are dissatisfied with Saudi foreign policy, especially the soft corner of the Saudi monarchy towards Israel.
Saudi monarchy’s arrogance and suppression is going overboard. Recently, they arrested some of the key leaders and businessmen, kept them captive in a hotel and squeezed billions of dollars from them against freedom. The arrested people included the son of former King Abdullah! They have also change the succession rules that only son of a sitting king can become the crown prince, thus quashing what has been going since the birth of Saudi Arabia. Thus, King Salman and Crown Prince Salman are treading a dangerous path for the kingdom that is strewn with shortsightedness and the risk of accumulated anger from the Muslim world
