7 years of Modi Government: An Era of Augmentation or Failure the policy times

Two years ago, BJP re-gained power with a whopping 303 seats for itself and 353 seats for NDA. As we enter the third year, it would be appropriate now to determine whether or not the government at power for the second time has done justice or not. An overhauling number of 26 crore families wander for food on their plates every day. Job Security, low wages, healthcare, education have all deemed huge in capacitance in recent times.

PMs Overconfidence

Hitting the country on January 30, 2020, COVID-19 sprawled its wings over every niche of the country. The economic slide and recession were man-made. The pandemic was a natural disaster made worse by man. In both cases, men and women in power are responsible for the downfall. As per the current economic data, thousands of MSMEs will be closed down or scaled-down; there will be more reverse migration, and more people will be pushed into poverty and debt. Remorse times will prevail over the nation.

PMs associates mocking the situation

The economic crisis and the pandemic have been tackled by the government with bluff, bluster, abuse, and an army of paid trolls. The PM on election rallies, health minister re-iterating ad nauseam that there is no shortage of vaccines or oxygen cylinders or hospital beds, finance minister observing silence on the demand for Rs 3,000 crore by the Serum Institute of India for capital investment to ramp up manufacturing capacity of its vaccine, Covishield, forecasted incompetence of the government in forecasting, scenario-building, planning, activity-mapping, resource allocation, provisioning, coordinating and implementing.  The quality of governance has sunk to an abysmal low. The result is the looming shadow of coronavirus over the nation, depriving the citizens of breath.

TPT Policy Advocacy and Recommendations

  • The Modi government was doubly blessed by a historic mandate from the people. Instead, this became a government with questionable priorities and a lack of any legislative clarity. Missteps like the demonetization wreaked havoc within the economic sector, bought no good to the seizure of black money, fake notes, and terror funding. A sharp increase in Farmers suicides, altering the Rafael deal thrice without following stipulated protocols, intruding the Journalism sector, domineering designs of the Aadhar Card that intruded on the privacy of every citizen were certain disgraced steps the government pinned during its tenure that could have had better approaches in their dimensions.
  • The government instead should have focused on stabilizing the economy pertaining to unprecedented times, bank scams and unemployment should have been addressed effectively. It needs to take constructive criticism from economists to work on its development model, GST, and tax slabs.
