We have seen how the pandemic has affected the education of students massively. Not only schools and colleges are shut but the students are also facing issues in completing their courses on time. While the path of education has been compromised due to corona, a “CoronaSafe Engineering Fellowship” internship program has been launched by AICTE in partnership with Pupilfirst to facilitate better educational up gradation amongst engineering students. It is yet to be seen how this certificate program helps engineering students in accomplishing their career goals.
Aim of the 6 month certificate program
The 120 hours study program that will go on for 10 weekends aims to improve the software development skills amongst engineering students. The internship program will cover some aspects that will help in the development of skills of the computer science engineering students. They also aim at identifying the top 30 students who have the potential to volunteer as the “national engineering leadership cadre” for public service commission. The primary focus will be on
- Programming fundamentals
- Full-stack web development
- Usage of rescript language for typed functional programming
- SaaS fundamentals
These are the aspects that the programme will focus more on and help the children to learn and understand thoroughly.
Benefits students will get from it
The students taking up this programme will be able to learn about the above mentioned aspects deeply outside of the bookish knowledge. They will be able to acquire knowledge on OCaml/ReScript, be able to attend practical sessions that will draw knowledge from 15 years of working industry experience, top industry experts will interact with them to discuss various aspects of modern web applications and at last they will be awarded with a certificate recognized by AICTE.
This free program is funded by Wadhwani Foundation, ACT Foundation, Michael & Dell Foundation and support from FreshWorks. It will start functioning from April 1, 2021. The students who are interested in the course shall apply online from December 14, 2020 to January 5, 2021 on the official website of AICTE. The list of the selected students will be published on the website on the 10th of January and the onboarding of the program will start from January 15. For more information students can visit the official website.
The Policy Times suggestion
- Though it is a good initiative by AICTE, the implementation of such fellowship programs is yet to be chalked out. Whether such certificates shall be accepted in acquiring a higher career perspective is also not known yet. The emphasis should be on making the engineering students more able at understanding software development easily.
- The certificate program is only good for engineering students from the field of IT and computer science. More such programs must come into action where engineers from other branches also get to improve their knowledge through such programs.
