Those found guilty in Alwar gang-rape case should be hanged till death, says Mayawati. Highlighting the case centering around the Dalit victim, the BSP chief said the Supreme Court should also act against the Congress government in Rajasthan and the state’s police. Mayawati has criticized the Congress government’s way of tackling the crime. She said the Dalit victim was unlikely to get justice. “Our party wants the Supreme Court of India to take the charge of investigation of this case.”

The victim alleged that she was gang-raped by five men in front of her husband on April 26. However, the case had been registered on May 6 as the victim was being threatened by the accused. The couple were travelling on a bike and were waylaid by the five men. They beat up the victim’s husband, made a video of the crime and circulated it on the social media. Moreover, the husband alleged that he had approached the police after the incident but no action had been taken as the police were busy with elections. This has triggered outrage in Rajasthan.

The National SC/ST Commission Vice-Chairman L.Murgan said an FIR should be registered against the police officers for alleged negligence as it has resulted in delay of action in the case. He had held a meeting with the Commission secretary Pritam Singh, Rajasthan Chief Secretary DB Gupta and DGP Kapil Garg to review the progress of the case. “I have asked that negligent police officers should be booked under sections 4 of SC/ST Act, charge sheet should be filed within 15 days and the case should be monitored on a daily basis.” Murgan further said that the victim’s family have demanded a government job.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the state government will make arrangements that an FIR can be filed at the Superintendent of Police (SP) office if the SHO concerned does not file the first information report and investigate the complaints.
