
Apple did not name the supplier who is making the smartphone. On Thursday in a statement, the company said, “We are proud to be starting production of iPhone12 in India for our local customers”. Apple plans to move between 7% to 10% of its iPhone production to India.
The motive of Foxconn in India
Foxconn is in aims to make huge investments in India. Young Liu, Chairman of Foxconn said, “In a broader picture, India will be a good place to develop and we are fully working in that direction”. Over the last five years, Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron have together committed $900 million to make iPhones in India. A major report stated that Foxconn, the Indian unit of Apple’s Taiwanese contract manufacturer will assemble the device in its plant in the Southern Tamil Nadu region.

Over the last 10 years, manufacturing in India has been growing up. This new move of assembling the iPhone 12 in India underscores how the country is emerging as a big production hub for global smartphone makers. And starting the production of iPhone12 in India for the local customers is a proud moment for us”. Just 2% of the Indian smartphone market is assumed by Apple, but in recent quarters it has grown up to a huge rate.
