Bangamata Fazilatun Nessa Mujib has been assassinated along with Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most members of her family on the brutal night of August 15 in 1975.
The 91st birth anniversary of Fazilatun Nessa Mujib was observed with due solemnity through holding of discussion and placing wreaths at her portraits at Bangabandhu Corner at the chancery building.
High Commissioner Muhammad Imran led the officers and staff of the mission in laying the wreaths.
He later presided by a discussion meeting on the life Bangamata Fazilatun Nessa Mujib at the chancery Bangabandhu conference hall.
In his speech Muhammad Imran said Bangamata played a pivotal role in the making of Bangabandhu by inspiring him from behind the scene in helping him take crucial political decisions in different stages of national life. At the same time Bangamata quietly but very efficiently took care of their family through difficult times.
Muhammad Imran also said she was a majestic struggling woman who led Bangabandhus political struggle. In her personal life, she was a very simple, the real face of a Bengali woman. She has also inspired Bangabandhu to take the war of liberation step by step.
The whole life of Bangamata Mujib can be an exemplary example for our Bengali women.
At the meeting messages from President Abdul Hamid was read out by Md. Nural Islam, Minister (Political) and from Prime Minister by Dr. Atiqul Haque, Counsellor (Commerce) and Fazilatun Nessa, Minister of State, Ministry of Women and Child Affairs by Tehsina Nasrin, Second Secretary.
Brigadier General Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Defence Adviser at the mission also spoke on the occasion. Zakir Ahmed, Second Secretary conducted the meeting.
A documentary on the life of Bangamata Fazilatun Nessa Mujib and A Bengali film Tungiparar Miah Bhai was also screened. The Chancery will continue to show the “Tungiparar Miah Bhai” in a different programme in future.
A Doa was offered seeking divine blessing for Bangamata Fazilatun Nessa Mujib, Bangabandhu and her family.
