According to an exclusive storey from Politico, US authorities provided a list of names of American citizens, green card holders, and Afghan friends to ensure the terrorist group gives them safe transit to Kabul International Airport.
According to three US and congressional sources reported by Politico, this step is intended to ensure that tens of thousands of US residents in Afghanistan may securely exit the country. While the US may have had noble intentions in seeking Taliban cooperation for the safe passage of American individuals, the decision has sparked outrage among legislators and military leaders.
“Basically, they basically put all those Afghans on a death list,” an unnamed defence source told Politico. “It’s simply abhorrent and upsetting, and it makes you feel filthy.”
While there has been no official confirmation of the existence of such a list, US President Joe Biden has not ruled it out. When a reporter questioned Biden about the media storey, he refused to confirm or deny it.
“There have been times when our military has contacted their Taliban colleagues and stated things like, for example, this bus is going through with X amount of people on it, made up of the following group of individuals.” “We want you to let that bus or that group through,” he was reported by Politico as saying. “So, yeah, there have been instances like that.” To the best of my understanding, the majority of that has transpired in those situations, and they have been permitted through.
“I can’t tell you with any certainty that there was a list of names,” he said, according to Politico. “There may have been. But I am not aware of any such case. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist; here are the names of 12 individuals; they’re on their way; allow them in. It is entirely possible that this occurred.”
