This will also help in building a co-relation in today’s life”. The great monastic traditions of India need to be audited and reviewed. Role of “Buddhist Studies” in The Competitive Race of India and China

Besides developing India as an educational hub, the Government is also aiming to counter China, which is trying hard to become a torch-bearer of the Buddhist nations. For a long time,  portraying itself as a major center of Buddhism in South-East Asia, China has been promoting Buddhist studies. Anand Singh, dean of Nalanda University said, “Emphasis on Buddhist studies is a part of Track-II diplomacy as it will play a major role in boosting the economy and culture, where India wants to compete with China if not dominated”.

TPT Policy Advocacy & Recommendations

  • Through ethical, intellectual, and spiritual perfection, Buddhist education aims at a personality transformation into the highest form of humanity. So, this move of the Central Government is a welcome one too!
  • The initiative to make India a center of Buddhist studies would attract much more international scholars and students, which in turn is a big step in making India an “educational hub”.
