According to research by Thomas Cook (India) Limited, India’s premier integrated travel services firm, Chennai’s prime travel market has seen a 70% month-on-month rise in demand since its re-opening in June 2021.
According to the study, the company’s data indicates high travel intent from Chennai’s consumers after 18 months of Covid-induced limitations, with good news on border re-opening and vaccination adoption. The impending holiday and winter season, as well as Expo 2020 Dubai, are resulting in positive recovery at 55% of pre-pandemic levels overall; an astounding 290 percent for domestic travel; and 60% for foreign travel (acquisition data September 2021 against September 2019). Customers from Chennai like to travel to the Maldives, Switzerland, France, Turkey, Egypt, Russia, and Dubai.Aside from its vacation business, Thomas Cook India has seen a growth in the wedding and honeymoon market; also, kids from Chennai are very interested in foreign education, and Thomas Cook India has delivered well in that area with its quarantine packages.
According to the poll, more than 70% of Chennai residents want to travel in 2021, with a mix of foreign and local locations. Around 65% choose overseas locations, with Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Maldives/Mauritius, Europe (Switzerland, France, Austria), the United States, Russia, and Iceland topping the list. Domestic vacations are preferred by over 75% of respondents, with favourite destinations including the Andamans, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Goa.
“Customers from Chennai like travelling with family and multi-generational families (55%); as a group of friends/colleagues (20%); couples (20%); and alone (5%),” it added.
