Committed To Change; Rekart Extends EPR For Circular Economy

Rekart is a leading Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) working with a vision of managing waste in smart cities with technology-enabled integrated approach. They provide an array of end-to-end solutions from collection to disposal for all. They have been helping 200+ PIBOs in fulfilling their Extended Producers Responsibility compliances. Empowering 1700+ waste workers, building capacities of 165+ ULBS in over 30 states, along with establishing 19+ Biomining Sites, Rekart has a strong Pan India presence. In simpler words, they are an advanced waste management company, a dedicated team driven with passion who can readily deal with the ever-growing need of today’s smart cities, municipalities and corporations.

But what next? Is there an action forward?
Yes. There are three very well-thought focus points that Rekart wants to work on for the next 5 years:

– A Circular Economy
– Building Climate Resilience & Adaptation

As stated in this article by World Resources Centre, “even if all the existing pledges and national targets are achieved by 2030, emissions reductions won’t be sufficient to limit warming to 1.5 degrees C (2.6 degrees F) to avoid an extreme climate crisis. Implementing circular economy strategies could help close that gap, according to a new paper from PACE, WRI, Chatham House, and NREL released ahead of COP27.”

It has been suggested by researchers, studies, and trends from all over the world that circular economy strategies could slow down nature degradation by reducing the demand for virgin materials, and decreasing pressure on ecosystems that improve climate adaptation, such as mangroves protecting against flooding or forests regulating temperatures. The idea of a circular economy offers strategies to eliminate waste, extend product lifespan, and lower overall material and resource consumption, thereby embodying a true climate change warrior.

In simpler words, circular economy strategies can:

– Complement decarbonization measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

– Support the sustainable scaling of the clean energy transition and

– Enhance adaptation to a changing climate.

Moving on, the climate is changing, and human activity is the primary factor in the acceleration of climate change over the past century. Regardless of how successful humans are at limiting the root causes of our warming planet, society is facing significant impacts. The ability to prepare for, recover from, and adapt to these impacts is called “climate resilience.” Extreme weather events and situations have shown over and over that resilience is an essential component of any comprehensive climate action program because climate change is both a global and a hyper-local issue. They are sooner or later universal. And, it will take a combined and coordinated effort, shared common goals, and resilience to tackle the issue.

And when it comes to adaptation, if we are already working through the approach of building a circular economy and climate resilience, we are halfway through adaptation.

Climate change adaptation could heavily reduce the negative impact of climate change, while also accelerating and making way for potential new opportunities. It involves adjusting policies and actions because of observed or expected changes in climate. And, that is the only realistic way to go from where we are right now. With the mad pace that the world, planet, and our climate are changing and snowballing, we will also need firmer, stronger, and quicker actions to combat it all. And, Rekart is relentlessly working day and night towards making that a reality.
