“Alone We can Do so Little; together we can do so much” – Hellen Keller.

Suddenly if the Earth grows mountains which can Echo one word globally, then it would be the Novel Corona Virus. Originating, in the Wuhan Market region located in the Hubei Province of China, the world health organization named the disease as Covid_19 and declared it to be a pandemic disease. Saying a condition as Pandemic would mean, the Novel coronavirus has the potential to affect millions globally. As of 29th March 2020, according to John Hopkins University resource Center, the Virus has infected almost 7 lakh people globally with 32,000 deaths. Only an integrated worldwide global response will achieve a lasting solution to this problem.

The United Nations organizations set up after the second war is the primary organization to respond to the threat of global problems. Article 1(3) of the UN charter spells out this specific purpose as follows” to achieve international cooperation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character”. However, the major global powers, instead of fighting this common enemy, have been fighting among themselves.

Security Council, which is the executive organ of the United Nations, is struggling to even come up with a joint statement on how to combat the Virus. The Security Council consists of 15 members, of which five are permanent. Under article 27 of the UN charter, to make a decision, the affirmative vote of nine members, including the concurrent votes of permanent members is required. The United States Being a Permanent Member of the Security Council is refusing to come up with a joint statement because it wants the statement to reflect the Chinese origins of the Virus which has been opposed not only by China but also by other states. One must remember, the world health organization, a specialized UN agency for health had specifically avoided naming new viral outbreaks based on the region of origin to prevent discrimination and ostracisation of the people belonging to the area. Such Internal Politics and arm twisting within the Security Council doesn’t bode well for the international community to effectively respond to the virus threat.

Moreover, the influential members of the UN are not giving importance to the advice of the united nations. For example, the secretary-general of the UN had called for suspension of sanctions imposed on countries by USA and other nations. However, this call for relaxing sanctions fell on deaf ears and recently the united states have enhanced the Economic and Criminal sanctions on countries like Iran and Venezuela. Recently, USA Indicted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Drug Trafficking charges.

Additionally, Russia has blocked all steps to conduct a virtual security council session by the video conference. Although Recently Russia had changed its position, the Russians have made it clear that these measures and meetings should be considered as informal. International Experts believe Russia wants to avoid discussing the matters related to Syria and the Central African Republic where other nations accuse Russia of shortcomings.

The Coronavirus Pandemic problem is unprecedented in recent history. The solution to the problem lies in robust international cooperation with no space for any petty politics. The nations of the world should unite to ward off this crisis. Governments need each other in this time of despair both in terms of Resource and knowledge sharing. China has already enormous knowledge in controlling the Virus. Its expertise is vital in bringing the Pandemic under control. Hence, the countries should stop resorting to petty politics in the International Arena.

The Virus has made us understand one clear message “despite the difference we have in terms nationality, we are all humans biologically. Micro-Organisms don’t discriminate between nationalities; it affects everyone equally. As the leading magazine economist has pointed out the Pandemic are global levelers; the Pandemic will no doubt level the differences and Ego between the nations. The Nations have a choice either they can resolve their disputes on their own or the Pandemic will do for the benefit of the International Community.
