With the future being Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data, it is vital that mathematics should be the strong focus.
Nasscom Chairman Raman Roy said. “The majority of the youth in college have to improve their maths skills, otherwise India cannot stay ahead in the age of automation and robotics.”

Data scientists which is a growing field in occupations requires heavy statistical knowledge along with numbers being processed fast. Even Fintech industry related jobs require maths as the main subject.
According to Research Firm, Gartner by 2020, 30 per cent of all B2B companies will employ AI for atleast one of their primary sales processes.
India has always had great mathematicians, and this should be seen as a motivation for the growing Indian Mindset-
- Aryabhata – Astronomy related information such as position of the nine planets along with the correct number of days in a year being 365 were discovered by Aryabhata.
- Srinivasa Ramanujan – Responsible for Hardy-Ramanujan-Littlewood circle method in number theory and a number of work on algebra. He is one of the most celebrated Indian mathematicians.
- R Rao – Well known statistician who was famous for the theory of estimation
With such mathematicians, Indians should realize that their DNA is strong in numbers. This can eventually produce the top data scientists and statisticians which will be needed in the future.
