PM Modi launched the National Health ID under the initiative Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) aims to develop the the backbone necessary to support the integrated digital health infrastructure of the country. Through the incorporation of digital highways, the mission will bridge the gap amongst different stakeholders of the Healthcare ecosystem.
Under the mission comprehensive repositories of health facilities have been created that will act as reservoirs of information pan India. Information pertaining to all patients will be stored in this digital locker that can be accessed nationwide.

The ABHA will link all health care benefits ranging from public health programs to insurance schemes. The Health ID would enable individuals and health care practitioner to exchange health records across all verticals. The ownership off the account lies with the beneficiary and can be accessible by any health care practitioner only after granted access. According to NHA, all information is stored with the encryption mechanism will allowed based on prior consent from the beneficiary.
