Q: How Digitisation can help Rural LBs and get EPR funds to get maximum value to their waste?

A: Most of the research work is centered around urban cities. 70% of the plastic waste created in the metropolitan spaces is often discussed but 30% of the waste which comes from Gram Panchayats or local bodies is not often discussed and addressed – are managed by ‘safaikarmacharis’. They have some issues – 1. Quantity is low and hence monetization is a challenge and 2. Is segregation of the waste.

EcoEx is discussing with the UP and Rajasthan Governments firstly to educate the local organizations to segregate the waste through various workshops and discussions; Secondly, to try to sell the recyclable portion of waste which has commercial value. they have thought of an answer taking into account the difficulties.

There are four options to consume the non-recyclable plastics – through cement plants, waste-to-energy, waste-to-oil, using it in the construction sector like with bitumen using plastic in road constructions.

Digitization can Transform India's Rural Waste Management System: Akshaya Rath Co-founder & CEO, EcoExQ: We understand EcoEx is a digital market platform, what are all transactions you facilitate through EcoEx?

A: EcoEx is a digital platform by helps the stakeholders to create awareness, network within themselves, and facilitate the commercialization of recyclable plastic waste. It’s 2.6 years old start-up. We aim to be a single portal to facilitate transactions between buyers-sellers – plastic manufacturers, recyclers, waste collecting agencies, PIBOs, importers, brand owners, etc. They can interact through this platform with third-party auditors with full transparency with cutting-edge technology and at a highly competitive rate.

We try to convert this informal sector into formal with white transactions. Now, many big dealers have GST numbers and try to encourage formal transactions.

Q: Is your platform in sync with MoEF and CPCB guidelines?

A: Yes, EcoEx is fully compliant with and in sync with the Plastic Waste Management 2016, amendments thereof, EPR Framework, SOPs of Mark 2121, and going forward, we are in compliance with any future frameworks. Even with the new framework to come in effect from October 2021.
