The government’s launch of the e-SHRAM site would allow for improved implementation of different social security programmes for all unorganised sector employees, India Inc said on Thursday.

The portal, which was inaugurated on Thursday, would not only assist to register 38 crore unorganised employees but will also aid in the delivery of different social security programmes undertaken by the national and state governments.

According to the PHDCCI, the goal of registering 38 crore unorganised employees is a significant step toward realising the objective of targeted intervention and last-mile delivery.

According to the CII, the Ministry of Labour and Employment’s aim to create a national database of unorganised employees is critical to the drive to formalise the Indian workforce.

“It will aid in the identification of unorganised sector employees, who number around 420 million, and is a critical step toward providing social security and other benefits to workers and their families.”

“When combined with the reform of labour regulations through the four labour codes, this step constitutes a key turning point in the country’s labour environment,” CII noted.
