The Policy Times is awarding 5 organizations to celebrate their sustainability best practices and waste management achievements during the national conference. EcoEx, the first Indian digital marketplace known for its plastic waste management services is being awarded the ‘Sustainability Business Excellence Award 2021’ for outstanding contributions in waste management under EPR Services.
EcoEx is being recognized under four parameters-waste management, local and green job creation, adoption of better technologies, improving lives of informal workers with notable positive social, environmental, and economic impact. Their operation creates an interconnected ecosystem for maximized, traceable and sustainable waste management. Their digital platform connected 45 Recyclers, 15 waste collectors, 10 ULB’s, 4 waste to energy plants.
More than 10 Brand Owners were helped for achieving sustainability goals and 35000 metric tonnes of plastic waste is recovered and recycled from the environment till date. One of the most recognized and celebrated traits of their operation is to make waste management models economically sustainable and incorporates informal workers to mutual benefit to the system and their lives.
Till date this organization, EcoEx organized several awareness campaigns with multiple ULB on how to ensure their collectors, west pickers, MRO operators can realize the better price. Training informal workers and other stakeholders in the waste management mechanism is undisputedly a better solution to enhance the ecosystem to yield better results. To facilitate this, they train ‘safai saathis’ or rag pickers on the importance of segregation and knowledge on dynamic market pricing as informal workers are imperative to segregation and collection of waste at the source. Waste management is a collective effort and EcoEx connects stakeholders in the system to maximize the effect which is environmentally and economically sustainable.
The Policy Times is going to organize a National Conference on “Roadmap for EPR implementation of Plastics in India” on Thursday 18th November 2021 Online along with The Shakti Plastic Industries, RECYCLE, Ramky Group, and GRC India in association with MRAI, IPI, ICCE, EcoEx, Sampuran(E)arth & Greenscape. The objective of this conference is to address the issues of the plastic waste management ecosystem in India and devise a Roadmap for EPR implementation under the Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules 2021. Over 300 stakeholders from Recyclers, Waste Management associations, Sustainability officers, line ministries, and Pollution Control Boards are taking part in this conference.
The Plastic Waste Management Rules seeks to mandate the handling of plastics especially single-use sustainably and phase them gradually. Plastic despite its low cost and versatile use poses equally significant negative cost to the ecosystem. The Amendment in 2021 creates a transparent, reflective system for plastic waste management for all stakeholders involved. To recognize and extrapolate the best practices to all stakeholders for increased adaptation and inspiration.
Plastic recycling is one of the most recognized way to manage increasing plastic waste. However, Indian waste management system is not interconnected which creates blind spots in waste tracing making it difficult to audit and identify the source to inculcate proper measurements. EcoEx is one of the acclaimed Indian companies in the plastic management field that offers digital solutions to identify the source of plastic, its channelization, and disposal with a complete set of documents that ensures the project is executed at the ground. They work on the plastic EPR credit certificate model to ensure plastic recycling and environmental & ecological balance.
