Dr. Manmohan Singh reiterated his criticism of the BJP-led government’s move saying that it is the major reason for the poor state of the informal sector in the country. While inaugurating a development summit virtually organized by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies, the Former Prime Minister said, “Unemployment is high and the informal sector is in shambles, a crisis precipitated by the ill-considered demonetization decision taken in 2016.”
Role of Federalism and Regular Consultation with the States
Holding regular consultations with the states is very important. Dr. Singh criticized the central Government for not doing so. He said, “Federalism and regular consultation with states, which was the cornerstone of India’s economic and political philosophy as enshrined in the Constitution, no longer finds favor with the present Central Government.” States must always be consulted to uphold the spirit of cooperative federalism.
Is Kerala’s Social Harmony Under Stress?
Sonia Gandhi, the President of Congress said at the summit that the social harmony of Kerala has come under stress and strain. Kerala has always been a lesson to the world in terms of maintaining social harmony and amity. Dr. Singh also supported her statement saying, “There are many roadblocks ahead that the state has to overcome. The global downturn of the last two or three years, aggravated by the pandemic has made the global interface of Kerala more fragile.”
TPT Policy Advocacy & Recommendations
- India is highly suffering from the problem of “unemployment” for the last two or three years. While keeping an eye on the other matters, the Prime Minister must keep an eye on the fact of “unemployment” too, to lessen the high rate of jobless people.
- Regular consultation with the states must be taken in order by the Government. To make India successful, this method is also useful as well.
