A WhatsApp forward is being circulated which states that ISIS is planning to steal profile pictures in the instant messaging app in order to misuse these for terrorist activities. According to the message, WhatsApp’s CEO has appealed to all its users to remove their profile picture within the next 20-25 days, and users should forward this message to all, especially to women’s as fast as possible.The message is said to be issued by A. The Logical Indian Fact Check team checked the claim that WhatsApp CEO has warned users to change their display picture and it could be misused by terrorists, hackers and ISIS and says it to be false. The message is being circulated since 2016, and according to True caller, the number is listed in the name of Arshad Ali and has been reported as spam by several users. Further, neither the WhatsApp CEO nor the Delhi Police has issued any such official notice. There is no- one named A. K. Mittal who has been the Commissioner of Delhi since 1977. The current commissioner is S. N. Shrivastava. Therefore the above message is an old recurring fake message forwarded. These kinds of messages from unauthorised third parties come in different forms such as spams, hoax and phishing messages. These messages are sent with the intention of deceiving the user and prompting them to act in a certain way.
