Gandhi’s Assassination was the Biggest Slap on Humanity!

It can be argued that Hinduism is probably the most misinterpreted religious practice among all religions. And one such person was Nathuram Godse who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi! This is what he said before he was hanged in 1949 after shooting Gandhi on his chest in 1948:

“In fact, honour, duty and love of one’s own kith and kin and country might often compel us to disregard non-violence and to use force. I could never conceive that an armed resistance to an aggression is unjust. I would consider it a religious and moral duty to resist and, if possible, to overpower such an enemy by use of force. [In the Ramayana] Rama killed Ravana in a tumultuous fight and relieved Sita.. [In the Mahabharata], Krishna killed Kansa to end his wickedness; and Arjuna had to fight and slay quite a number of his friends and relations including the revered Bhishma because the latter was on the side of the aggressor. It is my firm belief that in dubbing Rama, Krishna and Arjuna as guilty of violence, the Mahatma betrayed a total ignorance of the springs of human action.”

It is true that Lord Ram, Lord Krishna and Arjun did slay their opponents, but they did it for upholding the age old Dharma and not just to kill their opponents. In Gita, it is clearly stated by Lord Krishna to Arjuna that his enemies are already slayed by Lord and Arjuna is mere instrument of him. In any case, the right to slay is laden with certain conditions such as it can be only be done by overcoming hatred, ego, desire and the mind being to fixed to God and to establish Dharma (goodness!). Moreover, Bhishma was killed not because he was an aggressor, but because he was in the side of Adharma.

Naturam Godsey, thus, was a deluded person who could not comprehend the essence of Hindu scriptures, although he claimed to be a devout Hindu and a Brahmin. To sum it up, Gandhi did not stand for Adharma that Godsey thought he has the right to kill our ‘Father of the Nation’. Gandhi’s last words, “Hey Ram” were itself a proof that his mind was fixed on God! To kill somebody like Gandhi on the flimsy grounds of distorted religious doctrines was nothing but a slap on the humanity.

Godsey and some sections of RSS were diabolical towards Congress and Gandhi as they thought it is Gandhi’s pro peace stand that allowed Pakistan to happen. However, Gandhi allowed Pakistan; as otherwise, there would have been countrywide civil war. India was not the only country that was divided in the recent history. Canada recently allowed a vote of choice in the French speaking Quebec between staying in Canada and breaking away. Soviet Union was broken to pieces to form a sea of independent nations. All these happened to the respect the wishes of the people. Therefore, respecting the wishes of Muslim majority provinces of India cannot be termed as something evil and espousing the right to kill!

Unfortunately, Gandhi’s doctrines as despised by most educated Hindus today. It is also true that secretly, many revere Godsey! The secularism means respecting all religions and equal rights for all. Most Western nations practice secularism, and being inspired from them that secularism found it its place in Indian constitution. The secular Western nations are mostly successful with a healthy and prosperous society. So, instead of following them, why should we follow Pakistan or Bangladesh? India’s internal stability can never be successful without adapting to secular and just society. The shortsighted Indians should realize this, instead of endorsing distorted form of Hinduism referred to as Hindutva!
