In a recent shocking revelation by the US judicial department, the tech search engine giant has been sued by them for exploiting the dominant position. It is alleged that they misuse their position and incorporate monopoly in the web world which leads to a non-competitive market and affects the rivals to a greater extent.

What are the allegations on Google?

As the lawsuit says, Google has been “unlawfully maintaining monopolies in the markets for general search services, search advertising, and general search text advertising the united states” which means it has been ruling the search engine world through exclusionary practices.

The justice department has investigated the matter for as long as 12 months and now it has come to this conclusion. Jeffrey A. Rosen, The deputy attorney general of the US DoJ said in a public statement that Google “is the gateway to the internet and search engine behemoth” and that the lawsuit will take into consideration to not let it misuse this prized possession.

How did this incident come to light?

The probe into the matter started back in July 2019 when a US house of representatives started an investigation report on the work of the leading internet dominating companies amazon, Facebook, Google, and apple. For a few years, many country heads have been eyeing them for their big spending and dominating activities.

They are either buying their rivals or managing vendors and not letting them work with their competitors. These actions by Google had led to such investigations by the US judicial authorities which in turn brought this whole incident into the light.

What can this lawsuit mean to Google and its users?

As Google is the major ruling search engine in the world space, a lawsuit filed against it can not only hamper its image but also affect its user experience worldwide. If the allegations are proved to be true then Google may face severe lawful compensation and it can also lose out to its competitors if it has to withdraw all its dominating data management powers across the web world. To gain its trust back, Google has to prove they have not practiced monopoly and violated any dominant position rules.

The PolicyTimes suggestions:

  • The Government has the power to handle these issues and thus, not only the US government but the entire world governing bodies must become united to deal with this issue and take control over the activities carried out by Google. There must be some protocols that all the search engines must follow to have fair play amongst the competitors
  • Though Google has responded to the allegations and called it a “deeply biased” and a “deeply flawed” decision against them, it is suggested that they handle the issue with proper dignity and in a lawful approach
  • If there is no competition in the market against Google, the other authorities must lookout for a better alternative than Google and must not blame it for misusing the dominant position
  • As Google leads the tech industry by an appreciable milestone, this suing and lawsuit against it can only lead to a legal fight between silicon valley and Washington, which in turn may affect the user experience to a varied level.
