Amidst this Corona Pandemic, where scientists of the whole world are leaving no stone unturned to find the vaccine of this fatal virus, No ray of hope can be seen as to when this pandemic will get over. Initially, the increasing rate of this virus in India was very low. But, to the contrary, India has now become the 5th country to have the largest number of Corona cases. In this prevailing situation, the information issued by NIMHANS Neurovirology can be more terrifying as it states that by December 2020, 50% of the Indian population will be infected from the Coronavirus.
According to the report, the cases are increasing and are doubled every single week. As stated by Dr. V Ravi, Head of Neurovirology, “India has not seen the spike of cases, the number will go up from mid-June as the Country is unlocked, and there will also be the community spread”.

He said that as the Lockdown has been removed, it is important for the states to be fully geared up with medical infrastructure to handle the increase in cases especially those which will require intensive medical care and treatment.
Describing the report, he said that certainly it is expected that 50 percent of the Indian population will be infected by December 2020 but the good news is that 90 percent of them will not even know that they have got the infection. Only 5-10 percent will need treatment and a mere 5 percent will require ventilator support. Those, who have strong immunity and are fit, have a low chance to get infected from the virus, and even if they are infected, they can easily recover from this.
Talking about the mortality rate and unlock of the country, he added that the mortality rate has reached 3 and 4 percent in the country with the highest rate of 6 percent in Gujarat. But we cannot keep the country in lockdown as the people need to know how to live with this Virus. This virus is not as deadly as Ebola, MERS, SARS, or any other virus.
As per the direction of the Prime Minister, the Indian councils of Medical Research (ICMR) have advised the states to have at least two Covid-19 testing laboratories in each district. To abide by the orders and instructions, Karnataka has become the first state to reach the target of 60 laboratories.
Dr. Ravi, thanking the state as well as the state government said “I am very thankful for the support extended by the state government. My, dream is now to set up 75 laboratories in Karnataka by June 15 to increase the testing capacities”. He said, “The World is trying its level best to find the vaccine as soon as possible but it may still take 7 to 8 months. By then, we need to learn to live with this Virus with proper awareness and precautions”.
