Anil Vij, Haryana’s health minister volunteered himself for the 3rd trial phase of Bharat biotech’s vaccine against corona- covaxin. But after having administered the first dose of the vaccine, he has been tested positive for the virus within two weeks. Medicos say that the vaccine is effective only after the 2nd round of administration. Covaxin is in its 3rd trial phase and India sees hope with its successful trial phase completion.
Why Anil Vij registered for being a volunteer even after being a diabetic
Though he is a diabetic, Vij still volunteered for the covaxin trial. As per him, he wants to get the fear out of the common people. He said, “It is a matter of pride for every Indian that Bharat Biotech is coming up with an indigenous vaccine for Covid-19. I had volunteered to become one of the participants for the third phase so that people shed their fears and come forward to volunteer. With this, the entire process of developing the vaccine shall be expedited. Today, people are facing so many difficulties due to this ongoing pandemic, people cannot attend family functions, they cannot go out to meet their loved ones, children cannot go to their schools/colleges, they cannot go out and watch movies in cinema halls, buses are running empty. People want to get rid of this pandemic as early as possible. That is the reason I volunteered for getting the vaccination”.
All those who met him are under observation
After declaring in a tweet that he has tested positive for the coronavirus, Anil Vij appealed to those who have come in contact with him to undergo a test to find out whether they are also affected or not. He tweeted, “I have been tested positive for Corona positive. I am admitted in Civil Hospital Ambala Cantt. All those who have come in close contact to me are advised to get themselves tested for corona”. While he was under observation and close monitoring by health experts, his other health parameters are fine and showed no side effects of the vaccine. He met Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar and yoga guru Baba Ramdev a few days ago and also attended the office regularly. So, the ones who have come in close contact with him are also asked to undergo tests for coronavirus.
Status of covaxin
Covaxin is being provided by Indian Pharma Company Bharat biotech. It has already undergone two successful trials before and now, the third phase includes human trials. In this trial phase, almost 25000 volunteers are being administered the vaccine. If this trial becomes successful then it can be expected that it will soon be available for the common people as the first successful vaccine for the coronavirus. Anyone who wants to volunteer for the vaccine trial phase can visit Rohtak PGIMS for the dosage.
The Policy Times suggestion
- The world is seeing hope with the vaccine productions taking place globally. With India’s covaxin, hope surges a lot. If the covaxin trials become successful then India will achieve a boost in its research domain. So, any such failure in its trial can prove to incur an overall negative impact for the whole country.
- When the trials start to begin for the human phase, the volunteers administering the vaccine must lookout to the fact that any negligence on their part can also invite negative consequences. So, the authorities and the volunteers both must be careful and remain under observation until they are free of any “danger zone” kind of situation.
