The ethnic cleansing of Myanmar has a broad spectrum. They are killing anyone who is non Buddhist and terming them as foreigners. More than 500 Hindus were killed in Myanmar alongside the Rohingya Muslims. In the same way as the Rohingyas, Hindus of Myanmar are fleeing to neighboring Bangladesh in the refugee camps of Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar.
One of the Hindu migrant to Bangladesh narrates his horror story, “An insurgent group has waged a movement against the government in Myanmar. We have moved to Bangladesh in the face of their atrocities. This group had confined us for eight days in our village and did not let us go outside for groceries or even get water. After some days we got to know that they killed many Burmese Hindus at Fakirabazar, two kilometres away from our village”.
He said, although, the insurgents spoke to them politely, they were plotting to kill them by bombing. It is at this juncture that they left their home and most of their belongings to flee to Bangladesh.
If this story is ghastly, the story of a Hindu lady fleeing to Bangladesh should raise questions about the humanity and basic rights of mankind. She said, “They hacked my husband to death, looted my house and husband’s jewellery store. They had black outfits and faces covered so that we could not identify them. They killed all the people of my area and kept only eight of us women alive. We fled our homes to this place. A Muslim family helped us escape to this camp because we gave them word that we will convert to their religion”.
In Myanmar Muslims and Hindus are on the same boat. Just like Muslims being dubbed as foreigners and Bangladeshis, Hindus are called Indians. They are now living in the makeshift huts made of bamboos and plastic sheets.
Myanmar has introduced a new brand of Buddhist terrorism and ethnic cleansing with the aim that only Buddhist will remain in Myanmar. The world is so far silent about it, be it the Buddhist countries like Japan and Korea, the major world powers like USA, China and Russia, or even the regional powers such as India. However, if this continues, the situation in Myanmar will turn out to be worse than Bosnia or Rwanda. How long can the blind eye of the world leaders continue?
