Ramachandra Guha, a Bengaluru based historian, and writer, recently took a dig at our prime minister Narendra Modi. In his lengthy write up he mentioned several things that simply go against Modi. From running religious agendas to bothering least about the economic growth of the country, he in a way criticizes Modi earnestly. He went on to dissect Modi Ji’s political career in a free following manner which might not go down well with many BJP activists.

Things Guha said in his article

Guha quoted Dr. B R Ambedkar’s remarks during constituent assembly debates that said “the love of the intellectual Indian for the village community is, of course, infinite, if not pathetic” to compare with Modi. He actually wanted to refer to the current scenario as pathetic. He stated that after the farm bills that were passed in the parliament last week, people might notice the good in Modi, apart from that, there have not been many instances where Modi worked for the countrymen as prime minister. He also pointed at the demonetization instance and called it a “daft” move by him. He concluded that only the BJP party worker’s black money was saved before the announcement of demonetization while the other people suffered. He targeted Modi on various other issues.

Is he a people’s prime minister?

It is up to the countrymen to decide whether Modi is the people’s prime minister or not! But as for now, the Lok Sabha poll results which made him the prime minister on a repeated term says a lot about his followers in the country.  From being an ordinary worker in the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh to being the chief minister of Gujarat and now being the prime minister of India, he has come a long way.

The PolicyTimes suggestion

  • Narendra Modi has long been in the field of politics. He achieved this much not for nothing. Guha could have penned his thoughts in a more intense manner.
  • Whenever you speak for higher political positions, there are fears that you may be in the clutches of the authorities for hurting their sentiments. In his case, Ramachandra Guha can also be on the radar of the BJP government and even lawful action can also be taken against him for writing such things against the prime minister.
  • People must avoid criticizing the government for all the things happening in the country. They must be responsible enough to bring appreciable changes in society.
