HTC was the first company to launch an Android-based smartphone in 2008. However, in recent years, it is losing market share in India amidst the fierce competition among top players like OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo.

Reports suggest that HTC is going to shut down its smartphone sector in India as many of its top-level management have already left the country. The company had also laid off some of its US employees at the beginning of 2018. In September 2017, the company sold part of its smartphone operations to Google for $1.1 Billion.

All these news raises the speculations that HTC is going to shut down its smartphone business.

However, as per the sources it is not true. HTC is not shutting down its business, but going to launch a new model at the end of 2018. Some of its new models will also be launched in early 2019. The company is not doing the profitable business with its latest ‘U Series’. It is making efforts to incorporate new technologies such as AI, 5G and blockchain in the new models to cope up with upcoming 5G technology.

HTC launched Desire 12, Desire 12+ and U11 models earlier this year. However, these models did not make an impact in the market. The company received some positive response for its Vive range of VR headsets. It is said that the company is now trying to bring new models with 6GB RAM and 128 GB ROM.

HTC’s new models probably will help to find its lost place in the market. However, all depends upon the company’s marketing strategy and the product’s performance itself among the eye-catching models of the rivals.
