
After promising minimum income to the poor, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said if voted to power in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, passing of the Women’s Reservation Bill would be a priority of the Party.

Addressing the booth-level party workers in Kochi, he told “The first thing we will do when we win the 2019 election is to pass the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Parliament.”
He was responding to a suggestion from a party worker that there was need for more women candidates. “We want to see women in position of leadership,” he added.

The Women’s Reservation Bill, which seeks to reserve 33 per cent of seats in Parliament and legislature, has been pending in the parliament for a long time because of no consensus by the political parties.
