The sudden spikes in covid cases in some major states that include Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, and Assam has created terror amongst citizens. The highest court of law, the Supreme Court has ordered a probe into the matter and demanded a complete report of the present covid cases from all the states. It is expected that the situation may worsen more in December with the introduction of a second wave of the deadly coronavirus.

Supreme Court shows integrity

It is high time that the Supreme Court takes the matter into hands and take actions to control the spread of coronavirus in India. A three-judge bench panel that comprised of justices R Subhash Reddy, Ashok Bhushan, and M P shah issued an order where they demanded the current covid status report from all the states, especially targeting Delhi, Maharashtra, Assam, and Gujarat. It said, “We are hearing of a huge spike in the current month. We want the latest status report from all states. Worse things may happen in December if states aren’t well prepared,” regarding the current spike in cases of covid 19 across these four states.

Delhi most hit

While other states are finding ways to tackle the pandemic desperately, it seems Delhi has been a bit more unconscious regarding the same. The condition in Delhi has been worsening for a few weeks and thus, the Supreme Court has been stricter with the Delhi government. The top court targeted the Delhi government and asked, “What is the present situation? What extra efforts are you taking? We have to look into it,” and summoned them to present the report of the current covid status. Delhi, however, has crossed the mark of 5.29 lakh corona positive cases and the situation is still worsening.

How far is the hope of being covid free?

Though the invention of the covid vaccine is on the way and nearly 30 vaccines are under trial phase globally, the hope of being covid free anytime soon is not yet seen. In fact, even if the covid vaccine comes into the market, it can be that the common people won’t receive it soon. At first, the priority groups will get the vaccine then the commoners will receive it. Hope we can get some good news in the New Year.

The Policy Times suggestions

  • It is a fact that we all are experiencing a pandemic condition and we have no clue how to get rid of it except for some strategic safety precautions. And that is what we all can do to keep ourselves free from getting infected. We shall abide by the government rules and maintain the safety protocols to prevent the disease from spreading.
  • The government must take more strict actions to control the common people during corona times. There must be strong actions against those who are not maintaining safety protocols. The authorities must also be aware of the current situation of the most affected places and provide the required help to the affected individuals and communities.
