India has provided 150 tonnes of additional oxygen to Sri Lanka to aid in the fight against the third wave of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Sri Lanka’s national lockdown was prolonged till September 13 due to an increase in COVID-19 mortality and growing pressure on the hospital sector.

The Indian High Commission in Colombo tweeted on Saturday that “near to 150 tonnes of oxygen from Vizag and Chennai arrived at the beaches of Colombo.”

Following a personal appeal for help from Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa, India has been delivering critical oxygen supplies to the country since a mid-last month, according to the statement.
