After a month of the Liberal party return to power in September 2021, Indian-origin Canadian politician Anita Anand was appointed as the new Defence Minister of Canada in the latest cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday.

A 39-member Cabinet was sworn in, at the Rideau Hall in Ottawa, according to CTV News.

She as the Minister of Public Services and Procurement of the country led the procurement effort of the vaccine during the COVID-19 pandemic. She has worked extensively on corporate governance as a corporate lawyer, which refers specifically to the laws and rules in place to manage the operations of businesses, the report said.

My top priority is to make sure that everyone in the Armed Forces feels safe and protected and that they have the support that they need when they need them, and the structures in place to ensure that justice is served, Anand said.

Harjit Sajjan was the Defence Minister before her. He was criticized for his mishandling of military sexual misconduct, reported CTV News.

Mr. Sajjan has been appointed as Minister of International Development Agency, a report in the National Post newspaper said.
