The ongoing pandemic has not deterred students from pursuing education in one of the world’s most developed nations- the US. Students from across the world try their hand to get admitted to US universities for higher education. In the academic year 2019-20 alone, the international student count has been massive in the US institutions. While China topped the list, India hosted the second position in sending its students to the US.
India contributes a lot to the US economy
While china sent almost 372000 students in the academic year 2019-20, India is not far away in the race. There were a total of almost 193124 students even after a decline of 4.4 percent as compared to the last academic year. A total of $44 billion has been contributed to the US economy in the current academic year out of which $7.6 billion was contributed by India alone. This not only ensures a strong bond between the two nations but also supports the educational initiatives of many students at large.
The pandemic could not deter the enthusiasm of the students
The assistant secretary of state, Marie Royce, said, “We are encouraged to see the fifth year of more than 1 million international students in the United States before the pandemic.” She further added, “International student mobility is as important today as ever, and we believe the United States is the best destination for students to study and earn their degrees. Education is a pathway to a greater future and international educational exchange has the power to transform students’ trajectories.” This shows that even the pandemic could not deter the determination of the students.
Education is the key to development
The importance of good education has grasped people of all ages. They know that the right education brings the right reforms in every country. Thus, they take well education seriously. In India, where there are many poor to middle-class families who work hard to make ends meet, they also contribute to their child’s education endlessly. And the ones, who can provide better, are the ones who add to the US economy for getting a better education.
The PolicyTimes suggestion
- It is evident that the US has the best technology that supports development to a greater extent. And that is why people from across the world prefer its education as compared to the other nations. But we in India also have talented teachers and better educational infrastructures that would help grow the students to achieve success in life. Thus, parents and students must consider remaining back in our country and show the world what we can achieve!
- In contrast, the government must also make the education system more lenient and developing in a way that students enjoy to read and learn rather than only slog over to come first in the race of studying. Education should be about knowledge and should not be subjected to exams only!
