No clinical evidence is found to be ample to prove that China’s covid vaccine is effective. The pressure mounts on them as several authorities question the efficacy of the vaccines. After vaccines produced by AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, etc. yielded satisfying results in the trial phase, expectations are high on the Chinese vaccines. But the trial phase results of these vaccines don’t combat well with the desired results.
Authorities demand “details” and “accountability” of the vaccines
Peter Maybarduk, the director-general of Public Citizen, a non-profit advocacy group, has commented on China’s vaccine efficacy and said, “China has said it would make its vaccine a global public good but we need details and accountability.” However, China has not been able to prove the successful results of the implementation of the vaccines. The pressure deepens more on the Chinese drugmakers as other vaccine makers such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, etc. have shown results of successful trial phases.
China chooses wrong volunteers
Some public health experts suggest that China is delaying its vaccine efficacy results because the volunteers that they chose for the trials are not worthy enough. China chose Brazil and UAE as the covid vaccine volunteers where the virus has not spread as quickly as it had spread in the US. Thus, the results are not satisfying and the efficacy of the covid vaccine is taking more time to be proved.
The risk factors
If the Chinese vaccine fails to bring out positive results in the trial phase, then the risk factors would increase more. However, other vaccines may bring positive results but hopes are high on Chinese drugmakers. The world is suffering a lot from the virus that is believed to have originated in China. So, vaccine production needs to be fastened more to stop the world from suffering further. If timely precautions are not taken and the vaccine implementation is not done successfully, then we have to face more testing times. Globally, almost 200 vaccines are being produced, out of which approximately 30 are under the trial phase. The hopes are high that some of these might be effective enough to stop the spread of coronavirus in the world.
The Policy Times suggestion
- Corona is affecting and killing people voraciously worldwide. Thus, a vaccine has become the most useful need of the hour as of now. But that does not mean we shall trust every vaccine producer in the market. If China cannot prove the efficacy of the vaccine then it is better not to trust their production.
- The clinical trials must include the implementation of the vaccine to people of every age group so that its effectiveness can be judged. Also, it should be done in a way that does not create more side effects on the tested candidates. Thus, the governing authorities have to be very careful before choosing any vaccine, either for trial or for implementation.
