Mr. Amarjeet Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, and Mr. Ashwani Lohani, Chairman, Railway Board, will be inaugurating the conference. Mr. Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Delhi will preside over the valedictory function.
The Department of Tourism & Hospitality Management, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), is organizing a three-day international conference on ‘Rural Tourism’ from November 15th – 17th, 2018. Several renowned delegates from tourism institutes from India and abroad will be attending the conference.
The event is being sponsored by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
Mr. Amarjeet Sinha, Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India and Mr. Ashwani Lohani, Chairman, Railway Board, will be inaugurating the conference. Mr. Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Government of Delhi will preside over the valedictory function.
According to a press release, the foremost objective of this conference is to discuss the simultaneous research in the field of rural tourism. The event will look at life, art, culture, and heritage at rural locations in villages, which have core competence in art, crafts, handloom, and textiles.
Discussions will also be held on the possibilities of launching Association of Rural Tourism in India (ARTI).
The release says that the conference will emphasize on the enhancement of “Explore Rural India” which is a newly introduced sub-brand under the globally recognized brand, ‘Incredible India’ raised by the Ministry of Tourism.
The conference aims to benefit the local community economically and enable interaction between tourists and the local population for a mutually enriching experience.
This conference will help to bring various stakeholders on a single platform to discuss future tourism trends, ideas, implications, and methodologies, theoretical and practical approaches for rural tourism development.

The three day conference will have some of the notable dignitaries including Prof. Tanja Mihalic, University of Lijubljanna, Slovenia, Mr. Steve Borgia, Chairman, Rural Tourism Society of India; Mr. Raj Basu, Founder, and Director, Help Tourism and Advisor, Rural Tourism, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh; Mr. Jeevan Verma, Owner Rose Home Stay and Volunteer Director, Rural Organization for Social Elevation; Ms.Rashmi Sawant Founder Cultural Aangan; Marie Rajkowski, France; Isabelle Cloquet, Belgium; Klaus Ehrlich, Lithuania; Jose Guevara Brenes Costa Rica.
The conference also intends to have insightful deliberations on various sub themes like rural tourism destination; real vs staged debate in rural tourism, rural tourism governance and community stake, the role of NGO’s in development of rural tourism, and capacity building for rural tourism.
