In the early days, when there was no internet people used to gather as much knowledge from libraries, however with the internet trends have changed. A matter of looking up information is in the touch of a finger, on your mobile phone or by using your laptops connected to the internet. The Policy Times witnesses a time change of how libraries are forgotten in a culture of knowledge abundance in a world called the ‘Internet.’
Libraries used to get the funding from states to pay rents of the land, buy new furniture and provide the readers with the latest and best books to read. However, governments have cut crucial funding which is needed in public libraries.
Pankaj Singh, a Librarian at Dyal Singh Public Library has stated, “libraries are the real heritage of a city.”

The internet, along with online e-commerce stores to order books has led to a more fast-paced way of reading books and information. E-Books have completely taken over hard covered and paperback books. There are no stopping e-books, with the addition of environmentalists combating the use of paper.
Many people only go to libraries to enjoy the solitude and ACs. It is mostly school going kids that use libraries to use the luxuries of a library for the peace and quiet required to study.
Some argue that e material for studies is not up to the mark.
Directorate General of DPL, Dr. Lokesh Sharma shared his insights, “e-materials are not a complete replacement for books. They have authenticity and dependability issues. Depending on kind of experiences people are having using materials off the internet, their preference to e-material over books would vary from people to people, circumstances to circumstances and period to period.”
Hence digitization of libraries is important however copyright issues is a major problem that needs to be solved in order to make libraries come back to life.
