Around the Delhi borders at Ghazipur and Singhu, the crowd of farmers is thinning as the protest against the Centre’s new farm laws entered its 83rd day with no breakthrough insight. Only half the number is remaining from the thousands camping at the protest site barely a month ago. To garner support for the agitation, the focus is now on holding massive rallies across the states.
Tara Gandhi’s sympathetic support under the limelight
According to a BKU statement, against the Centre’s contentious farm laws, Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee visited Ghazipur on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border to extend support to the farmers. She urged the government to “take care” of the farming community and also exhorted the farmers to remain peaceful in their agitation. She even told that she had visited Ghazipur to support the farmers who have fed everyone all the life and not a part of any political program. Her extended support to the farmers was eye-catching when she added that” I want that whatever happens, farmers should be benefitted by it. The benefit of the farmers lies in the benefit of our country and nobody is aware of the hard work that the farmers do.”
Relevance of the Mahapanchayats
The Mahapanchayat formation drew a massive gathering of farmers. In the past couple of days, in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh the similar gatherings of the Mahapanchayats were in continuation. Against the three farm laws, the attendance at these Panchayats shows the growing support for the ongoing agitation. These events give a sense of belonging to the farmers as they feel a large number of other people too are involved in this struggle. KC Yadav, founder-director of Haryana Academy of History and Culture says Kisan Panchayats have brought different sections of society closer.
Disha Ravi, Greta’s “toolkit” arrested
A furor was created in the whole nation after Disha Ravi’s arrest in the Greta Thunberg “toolkit” case. She is been accused to create a toolkit to ‘defame India across the globe on the issue of three farm laws’. The pro-farmers protest toolkit grabbed Indian eyeballs after Greta Thunberg shared its link in her tweeter account. Even several critics slammed the document as proof of Khalistani conspiracy against India.
The Policy Times Policy Suggestions
- The police told that the toolkit is the conspiracy created to malign the image of our nation. If it is so, then the government must take serious charges against Disha Ravi.
- The Ministry must now take up some strict methods to end the agitation. The laws must be ensured in such a way that the protest ends peacefully without creating further incidents and it must also be kept in mind that the farmers get their proper rights.
