Though Joe Biden has won the presidential elections and has been declared the new president of the US, he still has some time to take control of the presidential office. Donald Trump still continues to hold his designation and has to undertake all the presidential duties until Biden is officially in charge of the white house. Interestingly, Trump has shown his bleak side by not signing a covid aid bill that would have benefited a lot of people in the US during the pandemic.
$2.3 trillion covid aid bill declined by trump
The covid aid bill that Trump refused to sign, was estimated to be $2.3 trillion that would benefit millions of US people whose families are affected due to the covid 19 pandemic. Some are jobless, some are homeless and some are food less in the ongoing pandemic situation and thus this bill would have benefited them enormously if passed by the current president trump. The labor department of the US revealed that 14 million people would have benefited from the bill. A partial shutdown of the government is all set to begin if necessary measures are not taken to pass such a bill by the government.
Trump did not vetoed the bill yet, hopes are still on that the bill would pass
As the decision of not signing the covid aid bill came into action, the US democrats and republicans took to protest against it and also expressed shock and grief over the fact. However, there is still a hope of the bill getting passed as President Trump has not yet vetoed his decision. It may be that if he changes his mind then he can sign it in the upcoming days and provide aid to the millions of needful people across the entire country.
Biden to hold account of the white house on January 20
The presidential election winner Joe Biden who contested against trump this year maintained that he would have passed such a bill would have benefited the common people of the US. He further expressed concern over the fact that a whopping amount of the money is spent on foreign aids, special interests, and cultural projects and hence he wants more money to be invested for the struggling Americans. “Why would politicians not want to give people $2,000, rather than only $600? Give our people the money!” Biden tweeted on the eve of Christmas.
The Policy Times suggestion
- It is evident from this decision why US republicans chose Biden over Trump for their next presidential tenure. When Biden came into power, he must ensure the millions of people who are affected by these decisions get the benefit again.
- The other political leaders around the world must take a lesson from this incident. When you think for the common people of your country, it will deliberately bring out results in your favor. So, every political leader must keep in mind to provide benefits to the common people rather than passing such laws that create problems for them.
