On Thursday, the incident took place in the city of Dasna in Ghaziabad District, and on Friday evening, the video went viral. It shows a man beating a 14-year-old Muslim boy inside a temple in Ghaziabad. Even the video shows the man kicking and punching the boy after he revealed his name and also his father’s name.

Is Humanity in Danger?

This question remains unanswered with incidents like this. The video of the incident is shared massively on social media. A 14-year-old boy who had entered the temple to drink water was noticed by Shringi Nandan Yadav, 23, the caretaker of the temple who caught and beat him. Another caretaker, Shivanand Saraswati recorded the whole incident. The 14-year-old boy’s father said, “My son stopped to drink water from a tap located inside the temple as he was thirsty. He was beaten up after they asked about his identity. He suffered a head injury. He generally doesn’t venture inside the temple but this time he told me he was just very thirsty”. He further added, “Does water have a religion? I don’t think there is any religion that can refuse water to a thirsty person”.

Charges Filed by Police

Iraj Raja, Ghaziabad Superintendent of Police said, “Two people have been arrested. One who was making the video and the one who assaulted the boy. They are in judicial custody”. He further added, “Charges of criminal assault, other sections (of the Indian Penal Code) as well as the Information of Technology Act, as the video was circulated online, have been invoked”. Strict actions against any person would be taken who is found indulging in anti-social activities.

TPT Policy Advocacy & Recommendations

  • The ever-growing reality for Indian Muslims has become so harsh that it does not matter whether you are a victim or the perpetrator. If you are a Muslim living in India at the wrong time and the wrong place, then the law can somehow be twisted to imprison you.
  • Much more strict moves must be taken by the Police so that this kind of merciless act eradicates from the country.
