Muraliganj High School, Phansidewa, Siliguri has bagged the Telegraph school awards for excellence from the Ambuja Neotia for Excellence in Maintenance & Eco-Friendly Initiatives on 30th October 2021. The ceremony was hosted by the Telegraph India.
The school has taken many measures including setting up a kitchen garden, vermicompost pits as well as organizing awareness sessions on the environment. A team of international delegates from UNICEF comprising representatives from the UK, Philippines, Germany, Laos, Afghanistan, Turkey, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Thailand visited the school in connection with hygiene and cleanliness issues.
Samsul Alam, the headmaster of the institution stated that they had competed with many private schools and was able to bag the award for excellence in maintenance and eco-friendly initiatives.
He also stated, “We are also proud because Premlal Singha, one of our non-teaching staff members, got an individual award as a shining star. He has not taken a single day’s leave in the past 17 years.”
Premlal Singha is a fourth-grade employee at the institution and is in his fifties. “It is a great feeling to get recognition for my duty,” he certainly stated.

Phansidewa is a place located almost around 25km from Siliguri. Muraliganj High School was established in 2000 and is located at the border of Darjeeling and North Dinajpur districts. The school is a state-aided higher-secondary Bengali medium school. The school consists of Grades from 5 to 12. The school is Co-educational and it certainly doesn’t have an attached pre-primary section.
