- Chief Metropolitan Magistrate directed the probe agency to supply the documents in physical or electronic form before May 7.
- Najeeb Ahmed of JNU has been missing after an altercation with some ABVP students in October 2016.
A Delhi High Court on Monday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) to give copies of statements and documents related to the closure report of probe into missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed’s case to his mother within two weeks.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Naveen Kumar Kashyap directed the probe agency to supply the documents in physical or electronic form and asked the investigating officer of the case to appear before it in person on May 7.
The court’s order came after hearing a protest petition filed by Ahmed’s mother, Fatima Nafees, against the CBI closure report in the case. The lawyer appearing for Fatima Nafees argued that she has not been supplied statement of witnesses.
Najeeb Ahmed, a first-year MSc student of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has been missing after an altercation with some ABVP students in October 2016. After Delhi police failed to get a breakthrough in the case, the case was transferred to the CBI in 2017.
However, in October 2018, the Central Bureau of Investigation closed the case after the agency failed to trace him.
Nearly two years after he went missing, the Delhi High Court had last year allows the CBI to file a closure report in the investigation.
On the other hand Fatima Nafees, the mother of missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmad want from politicians is to bring back Najeeb. She is looking for an assurance from political parties to bring her son back.
Fatima Nafees, a resident of Badaun in Uttar Pradesh which goes to poll on April 23, said representatives of various parties visit her house but they only express “sympathy”.
“What is CBI doing, what are intelligence agencies for if they cannot trace an innocent child? What will they do for country’s security?” Fatima Nafees said.
She said “Water, electricity, other facilities, everything is secondary for us. We only want Najeeb.”.
Fatima Nafees had travelled to Bihar’s Begusarai when former JNU Student Union president Kanhaiya Kumar filed his nomination, a move which attracted criticism on social media that she was doing politics.
“I did not go there to do any politics. I went there as a mother. Kanhaiya stood by me as a son when Najeeb went missing, its time I stand by him as a mother. But blessings is all I have to offer,” she said.
Candidates from different parties are coming to her home for vote. She said “she will vote for Party that brings Najeeb Back.” The BJP has nominated Sangh Mitra Maurya from the constituency. The Congress has fielded Saleem Iqbal Shervani while the Samajwadi Party has reposed faith in its sitting MP Dharmendra Yadav.
