Normal life was on for both our professional as well as personal day-to-day life. Our school was busy declaring the results of annual exams and both teaching and non-teaching staff were preparing for the new academic year 2020-2021 which was scheduled to start from 6th April, 2020. We finished declaring the results till our mid-school, news started buzzing about COVID-19 in all News Channels. At Guwahati, Local Transportation Association declared “Chakka Bandh” for two days as safety step. So, we the school management took a decision for two days’ holidays and we never realized that this was the beginning of the “New Normal” lifestyle. The two-day local holiday turned to 5 days lockdown to 23 days and continued till date with relaxation in the day time from 3rd May, 2020.
Just a week before 6th April, 2020, the management took a decision of starting our new academic session through virtual/online classes. Immediately, the same was conveyed to all teaching staff from Pre Primary to High School and Higher Secondary. Good and new changes come with few limitations. Teachers of various age groups and experience went through their own insecurities and difficulties as they were familiar with physical classes as school teachers. Neither were all tech-savvy nor had all the required facilities.
- Rajandgaon’s Delhi Public School Sharing Innovative Ideas for Online Education
- Online Education comes to rescue when schools are shut due to Corona virus
Overcoming all barriers, the enthusiastic teachers, Admin, HR, PR and Management team, started our new journey of virtual classes together from Monday 6th April for Toddlers to Class XII. The platforms that we are using are Zoom App, Google Classroom and WhatsApp. We gradually started with two classes and introduced weekend activities to overcome the monotonous life style. Eventually, the number of weekend activities were reduced to twice a month and classes were scheduled keeping in mind the screen time of students. Pre-Primary have more of activities and one online class of either rhymes, numbers, alphabets or pattern, colour and shape identifying sessions a day.
INNOVATIVE IDEAS THAT WORKED FOR US AND GAVE GOOD FEEDBACK AND PERFORMANCES:
*Teachers’ feedback after the class has helped us keep the students very attentive during the class. Everybody wants to be appreciated, students as well as parents.
*Providing diet tips to parents and students for mental and physical health during the lockdown increased the productivity and performance of our students.
*Counselling of students and parents by in-house team helped us support each other for smooth functioning of the classes.
*PTM along with management through the virtual platform has helped us make parents understand the limitations and barriers of the teachers while taking classes. Parents have become more supportive and cooperative in the process of controlling virtual class policing process for students.
*Happy classes have been introduced where students share their talents, worries, ideas which have helped in building the bonding between teachers and students.
Virtual class also gave a window to parents and school management to understand the deliverables of our teachers as well as wide range of teaching quality and capabilities of our resources. Besides regular classes we have been doing daily prayers, various other activities and celebration of all other occasions during the lockdown tenure. We are engaged in constant discussion and review meets along with our teachers to improve our present scenario.
