Dhaka Bureau Policy Times : The newly appointed Ambassador of Bhutan Rinchen Kuentsy called on the State Minister for Foreign Affairs Bangladesh Md. Shahriar Alam, MP today.During the inaugural call on, the Hon’ble State Minister congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment as the Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh.
The Ambassador acknowledged the willingness and efforts of the State Minister to strengthen bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Bhutan. Both of them appreciated the historical bondage between two nations. Ambassador stated that the bilateral relations between two countries have grown from strength to strength and have entered new heights in recent years, as testified by the increased frequency of the high-level exchange of visits and robust progress on numerous fronts.
Discussions were held on a range of issues covering trade, education, health, human resource development and Bhutan’s ongoing pursuit of the third international Internet gateway from Bangladesh.
The discussion on signing a bilateral Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) was also held during the call on.The Ambassador of Bhutan expressed interest when the Hon’ble State Minister raised the issue of technical assistance from Bhutan in establishing vegetable processing plant.
The two sides also briefly discussed the about commemoration of a joint event to observe the golden jubilee of the recognition of Bangladesh by Bhutan as a sovereign independent country.
