The government announced Padma Vibushan and 25 Padma Shri awards. The Padma Awards are India’s highest civilian honors after Bharat Ratna to recognize the achievements in all fields and disciplines which involves any element of public service. In a series of tweets, the government announced these awardees. Besides Kumar Mangalam Birla and Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, GOI has decided to confer the unsung heroes for their dedication and public service in the fields of health, agriculture, art, and social work. A wood carving artist is actively rehabilitating misguided people in LWE affected areas and will receive Padma Shri in Art.
K C Runremsangi: Queen of Mizo Folk
Runremsangi is preserving the Mizo folk heritage through music and will receive the award in Art (vocals-Mizo).
Mangala Kanti Roy: Sarinda Ke Sartaj
Roy is the oldest living folk musician of West Bengal and shall receive Padma Shri in Art (Folk Music).
Risingbor Kurkalang: Master of Duitara
Kurkalang is promoting Khasi folk music by crafting and playing Duitaraget and shall receive the national award in Art (Folk Music).
Parshuram Komaji Khune
This folk artist has been using theatre for social causes including LWE rehabilitation. The artist will receive Padma Shri in Art (Theatre).
Moa Subong: Tunes of Manhum
Subong is a Naga musician who invented an easy-play wind instrument, Bamhum. This Naga artist shall receive Padma Shri in Art (Folk Music).
Ghulam Muhammad Zaz: Santoor Ke Sartaaj
Ghulam is one of the finest santoor craftsmen from Srinagar. Continuing his 8 generation’s legacy, his efforts will be recognized by Padma Shri Art (Craft).
B Ramakrishna Reddy: Bhasha Rakshak
Reddy is a linguist working hard to preserve tribal and southern languages like Kuvi, Kui, and Manda. He shall be awarded Padma Shri in Literature & Education (Linguistics).
Besides these, there is also Domar Singh Kunvar, a natya nacha artist, Paresh Rathwa, an artist trying to preserve 12000 years tribal art Pithora alive, and Kapil Dev a bawan buti handloom weaver.
