Amitabh Kant who is the Niti Aayog CEO is set to leave the government think tank toward the finish of June following a six-year stretch of heading the association. He will be replaced by Parameswaran Iyer who was the previous secretary of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation and the power behind the government’s Swachh Bharat Mission. Iyer’s initial tenancy will be for a span of 2 years, as indicated by a notification by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

“The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Parameswaran Iyer, lAS (UP:81), Retd. as Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog vice Shri Amitabh Kant upon completion of his tenure on 30.06.2022, for a period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, on the same terms and conditions as were applicable in respect of Shri Amitabh Kant,” read the official notification from the government.

Kant’s tenure was stretched out by a year in June 2021. A 1980 batch retire IAS official of the Kerala unit, Kant has been the CEO of Niti Aayog beginning around 2016. During his time at the association, Kant laid down a good foundation for himself at the high level of the public authority in strategy matters connecting with modern turn of events, innovation, and venture.

Iyer who is about to his replacement had left the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 2009 following 17 years in help and afterward returned as secretary of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (D0DWS) in 2016. He was the power behind the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a mission to destroy open defecation by developing more than 90 million toilets in rural parts of India. In July 2020, he left his post of secretary of DoDWS and later proceeded to work with the World Bank in the US.

It was during his tenure at the World Bank’s Hanoi office in Vietnam as program leader and sanitation expert in 2016 that he was moved toward by the Indian government to assume responsibility as the top firearm at the drinking and sanitation department.

Iyer who is 63 years old has previously worked as Senior Rural Water Sanitation Specialist at the United Nations between April 1998 and February 2006. Iyer has even worked with the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh in the field of education.
