Three videos came forward on Saturday concerning the brutal attack on students of the Jamia Milia Islamia University in New Delhi. The video showing the police wearing riot gear allegedly entering the student’s library without permission and hitting students brutally with lathis and batons. The university confirmed footage has been released by Jamia Coordination Committee.
This CCTV footage of 15th December went viral all over the social media and a huge number of people criticizing the police for their actions. The University’s Public Relations Offical Ahmad Azeem said to the media, “Prima facie, the CCTV footage seems to be of MPhil and Ph.D. section in Dr. Zakir Hussain Library.”
Delhi police stated to the media, “We are investigating the video as it appeared to be edited”. The police had also released a video which is showing that the students enter the PG reading room and blocking the way with the help of tables. It has been accused that while students have shared footage of terrifying police attack on empty-handed students, police have also posted a video compilation which boycotts the police violence. The footage developed a lot of questions to the Delhi Police as earlier they have continuously disavowed violence used against students inside the University.
According to Times-News, Jamia Proctor Waseem Ahmad Khan spoke to the media about the footage leak, denying that the Proctor Office has released the video on the internet, Khan said that all the details about the December 15 incident are with the police. Referring to the other videos on the same evening, the protestors were ‘prepared with stones’ which has been shown by the police.
As per the information got from the police that during the crackdown, the rioters had entered the library to get access and then the police had entered from the back gate to arrest them.
