Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh welcomed Vulcan Bajkir in Dhaka on May 25 They discussed the Rohingya crisis, the situation in Myanmar, the impact of climate change, humanitarian development, gender equality, and women’s empowerment, a culture of peace and peacekeeping.
The President of the General Assembly also called on the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. AK Abdul Momen. They discussed the Rohingya crisis, climate change, steps taken to address the coronavirus epidemic, Bangladesh’s transition from a least developed country to a developing country, South-South cooperation, and the Sustainable Development Agenda-2030.
After the bilateral meeting, Vulcan Bazki will hold a joint press conference with the Foreign minister during his stay in Dhaka, President Bazkir delivered the sixth lecture in the Bangabandhu Lecture Series at the Foreign Service Academy of Bangladesh, which focused on Bangladesh and the United Nations. The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.
At the end of the day, the President of the UN General Assembly met with the UN Country Team in Bangladesh led by Mia Seppo, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh. During the program, President Bajkir was briefed on how the UN agencies in Bangladesh are carrying out important tasks.
On May 26, President Bazkir visited Cox’s Bazar. There he met with representatives of the Rohingya community. He was accompanied by Shah Rezwan Hayat, Commissioner for Refugee Relief and Repatriation, Mia Seppo, UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh, and camp authorities. During a meeting with Rohingya representatives, President Bazkir emphasized that the plight of the Rohingya had not been forgotten by the world and that the UN General Assembly was committed to ensuring a better future for the Rohingya.
President Bajkir was later briefed by the Commissioner for Refugee Relief and Repatriation and the camp authorities on camp management.
President Bazkir then observed the situation in the shelter from Camp W-8 Watch Tower.
Later, General Assembly President visited Bajkir Camp-9. There was a fire in this camp recently. There he met with health workers and visited everything at the Turkish Field Hospital in the camp.
The President of the UN General Assembly then returned to Dhaka before leaving for Islamabad.
