It is not for nothing that so many accusations have accumulated regarding the Russia’s interference in US elections. There have been evidences that Russia supported Donald Trump with both cash and kind.
The former director of national intelligence, James Clapper, has said that the assessment of US intelligence of Russia’s interference on the presidential election last year “cast doubt on the legitimacy” of President Donald Trump’s victory.
“Our intelligence community assessment did serve to cast doubt on the legitimacy of his victory in the election,” Clapper said of Trump.
“I think that, above all else, is what concerned him, and I think that transcends, unfortunately, the real concern here, which is Russian interference in our political process which, by the way, is going to continue,” Clapper said.
Robert Mueller, the special counsel is overseeing the probe of Russia’s role in the presidential election on behalf of the US Justice Department.
The evidences include several people close to Trump have tried to or have actually made contact with Kremlin. These people include Paul Manafort, the former campaign chairman of Trump; Michael Flynn, former national security adviser and others.
Even President Trump is not outside the list as record shows Trump, his son-in-law, Jared Kushner and Manafort attended the meeting with Kremlin linked Russian lawyer. The question, thus, arises why Trump and his associates established contacts with Russia and people associated with Kremlin again and again? No substantive and satisfactory answer has been provided by these people as to why they held meetings with Russians.
Hillary Clinton was also had the view that Russia meddled in the election with the sole purpose of defeating her. “There certainly was communication, and there certainly was an understanding of some sort,” Clinton said. “And there’s no doubt in my mind that there are a tangle of financial relationships between Trump and his operation with Russian money,” Clinton said, adding that she was confident the Trump campaign “worked really hard to hide their connections with Russians.”
With so many evidences against Trump of being complicit with Putin in the election campaign speaks volume for the old adage that there cannot be smoke without fire. However, getting evidences and proving guilty of the most powerful man on earth is not easy. Trump has and is likely to in the future, would be trying to manipulate the investigation proceedings. If the truth comes out of such haze, it will be victory for American democracy and justice system.
