In the latest plea made by two death row convicts of 2012, Vinay Sharma and Mukesh Singh, in the Nirbhaya gangrape case had applied for curative petitions, the Supreme Court, on Tuesday, dismissed the curative petitions.
Days, after a court issued the death warrants against all four convicts in 2012 Nirbhaya Delhi, gang-rape case, on January 7, one of the convicts Vinay Sharma on Thursday filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court.
According to AP Singh, Convict Vinay Sharma’s, who had submitted a curative petition in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the death penalty. In the petition, the lawyer had appealed to SC to consider that Vinay was only 19 years old at the time of the incident. He had argued that ,Young age and socio-economic background should have been considered as mitigating factors. the petition was heard by five-judge Bench of Justices N V Ramana, Arun Mishra, R F Nariman, R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan. after hearing their plea and the five ebnch judges pronounced the judgment of dismissing the plea.
After the dismissal, they are now left with one last legal option, that is to file a mercy petition to the President. The convicts can do so within seven days from the date on which the superintendent of jail issues a notice to do so.
Meanwhile, Asha Devi, mother of the gang-rape victim, hailed the verdict and revelaed ho weagerly she is waiting for the day when all the convicts will be hanged and will be the biggest day for her. Ms devi has been follwing the case for seven years in hope of getting justice from court. According to her “”22nd January 202 ithe s the biggest when they (on the icts) will be hanged.
On January 7, 2020, issued death warrants against all the four convicts – Mukesh (32), Pawan Gupta (25), Vinay Sharma (26) and Akshay Kumar Singh (31) – and ordered they be hanged on January 22 at 7 am in Tihar jail, over seven years after the brutal crime sparked outrage and anger across the country.
The judgement has been long awaited for the TThe 23-year-old paramedic student, referred to as Nirbhaya, was gang raped and brutally assaulted on the intervening night of December 16-17, 2012 inside a moving bus in south Delhi by six persons before being thrown out on the road.
She died on December 29, 2012 at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

On July 9 last year, the apex court had dismissed the review pleas filed by the other three convicts in the case, saying no grounds have been made out by them for review of the 2017 verdict.
One of the six accused in the case, Ram Singh, allegedly committed suicide in the Tihar Jail
A juvenile, who was among the accused, was convicted by a juvenile justice board and was released from a reformation home after serving a three-year term.and had attracted lot of public and media attention over the years.
