Tata Steel, one of the world’s largest steelmakers, has plans to roll out work from anywhere scheme this month. In this scheme, it will allow its white-collar employees to continue working from home even after the pandemic situations come into control. Initially, it will include 10% of the employees for the scheme and with time it will be implemented on up to 30% of the employees.
The benefits of the scheme
This work from anywhere scheme is beneficial in many aspects; both for the employee and for the organization. As Tata steel plans to roll out the scheme, the infrastructural expenses would be controlled when these employees do not attend the office. The savings on electrical power, office space adjustments, and several other such employee-related expenses can be cut off. On the other hand, the employees also get the benefit to spend time at home or anywhere they want to be and still does their office work. Also, the commute expenses of the employees are saved in this type of scheme.
Risk factors cut down
In the ongoing pandemic situation, it is impossible to say when the vaccine will come into the market or when this pandemic will subside. So, walking the path of virtual employment cuts the corona risk factor by a good margin. There are a total of 32000 employees and 55000 contractual workforces in tata steel across the country. Imagine if all of them attended office in the time of Corona, how much of the risk factor would increase! Thus, it’s a good move by the Tata steel organization to keep corona in check.
There are negative impacts too of this newfound scheme! Like working in an office environment and working from home have different impacts on people’s working abilities. The enthusiasm and dedication that you show while you’re in a physical office are not the same that you can initiate while at home (or anywhere else). Apart from this, sometimes there are communication issues between you and the other team members which can delay the work.
