Since independence, Muslims need their presence in important public spheres which is almost invisible due to economic deprivation, lack of education and higher drop out rate which led to marginalization and stereotyping of the community. To uplift the Muslim community in West Bengal ‘Al- Ameen Mission’ started with a humble journey of 7 students in 1987 with the aim of providing modern education with moral values. The students from the poorest section are given free education. The mission dates back to three decades in imparting education which not only aims to provide knowledge, skill, technique, information, information to enable the students to know their rights and duties towards the family, society, and nation at large.
‘Al- Ameen Mission’ is one the education trust in India offering an impressive education program, with uniquely intensive global experience where students learn from the best of teachers. The projects under ‘Al- Ameen Mission’ are most promising providing residential coaching for civil services, NEET- UG & PG, JEE-IIT, and IIM aspirants. Moreover, there are plans to provide training to teachers and administrative staff of various academic institutions according to the current international standards. ‘
Al- Ameen Mission’ offers the most demanding and intensive academic program. When the mission started the percentage of Muslim students in Medical & Engineering college was 2% to3% which has increased to 20% to 30%. at present, the Muslim students are not only in best Engineering, Medical Science and Computing colleges but are selected by top MNCs, recruiting agencies each year. ‘Al- Ameen Mission’ has uplifted students from backward strata who are suffering hardships, discrimination due to lack of good education. Also, the dropout rate has been reduced to a large extent.
The alumni enjoy good employability and are well sought after by employers in diverse industries. Many of them go on to assume management positions at reputable Indian and companies. Many of these alumni contribute significantly to their respective fields, bringing positive impact to businesses or society. Others have set up their own start-ups or businesses. the mission has not only transformed the attitude of students in West Bengal but the number of dropouts has also reduced.
The Mission has earned a lot of accolades from the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Ms. Mamta Banerjee in 2015, the Telegraph school award for excellence in 2002 and 2009. In 2006, the Mission was awarded the Begum Rokeya Puraskar. the achievement by the mission has been mentioned by academicians, researchers as means of empowerment for the underprivileged section of society.
‘Al- Ameen Mission’ being a charitable organization, gives 100% subsidy in the fees and even takes all other responsibilities of education and upbringing to deserving students. the funding to the mission comes from Zakat fund across the country and general donation from the public.
‘Al- Ameen Mission’ is committed to increasing the participation from the Muslim community through publishing books, journals, and periodicals. At present, a Bengali magazine “Al Ameen Barta in Bengali and an In –House newsletter in English is being regularly published to break free the age-old stereotyping of Muslims by mainstream media.
